As I talk to employees of every level around the company, everyone has a thirst for more information on how DSV will handle the integration of the two companies once the deal finally closes. In the next few weeks, the leaders of the respective functions from each side and the business units are getting together to start the joint integration planning process. Keith Pienaar, our CL&D business leader, met with his Road and Solutions counterparts last week (in DSV, Road refers to their Distribution business and Solutions refers to their Contract Logistics business). Ditlev Blicher and Hessel Verhage, our Forwarding business leaders, meet with their Air/Sea counterparts this week, and a team of finance and IT people from DSV will be visiting Long Beach and Portland to meet with their peers. After DSV gathers the information from these visits, they’ll be in a better position to provide us more information on how they’d like to proceed.
We have started to ramp up our communications planning in expectation of having more information to share with you as we get into January and closer to the expected deal closing (there is no change in the timeline we provided earlier). In the meantime, I’d urge you not to fall into the trap of filling the vacuum with rumors or speculation generated within our organization or theirs. They have not announced how they’re going to do this, so any rumors you hear from your DSV counterparts are speculation on their part.
I know that waiting around for more information is tough. In the meantime, we have clients to serve and cash to manage. I wanted to recognize a few of the many employees who have done an outstanding job serving our clients recently:
Steve Harders, Perth Import Ocean – from client AIS, “I am going to call him ‘Saint Steve’ henceforth because he facilitated a miracle! … I greatly appreciated Steve attending to [our problem]. AIS has a very high regard for all the staff we deal with at UTi Perth.”
Sue Strickland, Toronto Trade Services – from client Derma Sciences, “[Sue] is top notch at what she does and really works her tail off for the customer. Sue is very professional and always does her best to make sure we are always looked after.”
Derek Smith, Johannesburg Freight Forwarding – from client Liebherr, “Derek’s work ethic and support are among the reasons our export business is so successful. We just need to thank him for supporting us as a customer. His knowledge and willingness to go the extra mile is very appreciated.”
In terms of cash, we’ve made good progress on Accounts Payable this past quarter, in part due to a widespread effort across CL&D and Freight Forwarding to make sure we paid our vendors in about the same terms as our clients pay us. Our Accounts Receivable progress has been better and better each month, and we’re on track to meet our annual improvement goal of $100M in cash in the door due to collecting on past due amounts. Thank you to everyone involved for your continued progress and great work.
These are things we can control while we wait for the deal to close. I appreciate everyone’s focus on these areas in the coming weeks so we can deliver a great fourth quarter.
