In this study the utility of play skills instruction as means to reduce stereotypy within an early childhood educational
setting was evaluated. Second, for two participants whose play did not generalize across toys following a traditional
behavioral intervention, a modified behavioral intervention involving lag schedules of reinforcement was evaluated as a
means to promote generalization. Finally, we sought to assess the validity of longstanding criticisms aimed at behavioral
play interventions (e.g., Jobling, 1988; Luckett et al., 2007).
