The influence of ZnO on the structure, physical properties, crystallization and sintering of the zinc-containing iron-calcium-aluminosilicate
glasses has been investigated. The results indicate that ZnO acts as a
modifier in the glass network, increasing the non-bridging oxygen and
glass density, reducing the glass transition point, softening temperature
and thermal expansion coefficient. The glass surface crystallization
mechanism is not influenced by the inclusion of ZnO. However, the crystallization tendency of the glass decreases as the activation energy of the
crystallization increases.
