Among the key authorities is the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI), under the Ministry of Industry, which is responsible for developing national standards, certification, monitoring the quality of products and services, international cooperation, and establishing a national single network on standardisation. TISI is empowered to give product certifications according to established Thai standards and is an accredited body for ISO and HACCP certifications in Thailand. Industrial products that have TISI’s certification are generally regarded as having high standards and good quality. TISI has certified more than 2,000 products on a voluntary basis. (Source: TISI, 2013) The National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS), under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, is responsible for developing food standards to protect consumers against health hazards from food, accreditation of certification bodies, international cooperation and food standards control. The Ministry of Commerce is responsible for policy and legislation on metrology, while the National Institute of Metrology in Thailand under the Ministry of Science and Technology is responsible for the implementation. The Office of the National Accreditation Council (NAC) of Thailand, the Department of Medical Service, the Department of Science Service, and the ACFS are responsible for accreditation of organisations for conformity assessment. The Ministry of ICT and the telecoms regulator (NBTC) are responsible for type approvals of equipment to be connected to networks.
