A Colonial style
The colonial style started in the early 18th century, when America was still a British colony, and copied English houses of that time. Typical Colonial houses have a simple, symmetrical rectangular shape. The living room, dining room and the bedrooms and bathrooms are on the second floor. There is a central doorway with two windows on each side of the first floor, and a row of five windows on the second floor. Colonial houses are usually built of wood or brick, with wooden shutters and a large frame around the front door.
