It comes as a shock to no one that this is Reynolds’ vehicle – a role he was born to play. Not only does it look like he’s having more fun than he has in years tossing out insanely quotable one-liners and breaking the fourth wall, he’s adept at nailing Wade’s vulnerable side, getting us to care about his character as a well-rounded person. He and the filmmakers aren’t afraid to have him get his hands dirty and do things that regular Marvel heroes don’t out of fear of tarnishing their brand. That takes guts – especially in terms of honoring the legacy character creators Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza begat.
