1. Introduction
Over hundreds of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have been
qualitatively identified in indoor environment, and the main
compounds contain alkanes, aromatics, esters, alkenes, carboxylic
acids and alcohols [1]. In addition, analysis of the available data
demonstrates a statistical association between the IAQ condition
and occupants' health and performance [2]. Ventilation, as a
traditional dilution method, is not strongly recommended in
current practice due to its limitation in terms of outdoor air quality
(OAQ) and energy cost. Therefore, in order to provide truly safe,
healthy, productive, and comfortable environment, it is necessary
to develop technologies and/or effective strategies to improve IAQ
and reduce energy consumption.
Nano-technology is an emerging advanced technology that offers
many opportunities for HVAC applications and aims to improve
air quality. One of the most highly anticipated uses is photocatalytic
oxidation (PCO) technology, which utilizes a nano-catalyst that is
stimulated when illuminated by UV light to provide an alternative
