few researchers and very few research studies have the distinction of exercising influence for more than half a century as was exercised by elton mayo and his hawthorne studies. his studies on industrial psychology are profound and he is considered as one of the pioneers of human relations approach. he was one of the most influential social scientists of his times. he is widely recognised as the progenitor of human relations movement and his work laid foundations for later works highlighting the importance of communications between the workers and management. though mayo's findings were contrary to the theories of his contemporaries that the worker is motivated by self-interest, his work on motivation revolutionised the theory and practice of management.
