A recent contribution to measurement in moral judgment research is the Sociomoral Reflection Measure (SRM). The SRM appears to have good reliability and validity properties, comparable to those of the Kohlberg Moral Judgment Interview (MJI; Kohlberg Moral Judgment Interview (MJI; 1983). The main contribution of the SRM is practical: whereas the MJI usually reciuires workshop training and individual interviewing for its effective use, the SRM was exphcitiy designed for group administration and for self-traming in Kohlbergian moral stage assessment (Gibbs & Widaman, 1982).
The objective of the present research was to develop, using the SRM as a base, a multiple-choice measure of moral reasoning, Such a measure—although providing only an indirect index of production data—would offer further practical advantages beyond those of the SRM, since multiple-choice responses can be computer scored (therebyeliminating the considerable time needed for stage assessment training and scoring).
