In Brazil, L. Travassos contributed with a series of
publications (1925–1965) dealing with oxyurids and
thelastomatids of Diplopoda, Chilopoda, and Insecta.
Pereira (1937) also isolated and described an entomopathogenic
nematode, Heterorhabditis hambletoni
(DRhabditis hambletoni) from the cotton weevil larvae,
E. brasiliensis. This Wnding represents the Wrst record of
the presence of an entomopathogenic nematode in South
America (Pereira, 1937).
