Home sweet home, son." his dad parked the car at the driveway of their huge house.
"Can't believe I haven't been here for 6 years." Kai breathed with an amused face, getting down the care.
Kai checked in into his room. His room no longer was filled with comic books or Spider-man comforter. It had been stocked with brand new computer, queen sized bed, smart Tv and everything else a young adult's room would have.
He lounged on his bed, sprawling his arms legs wide, probably feeling jet-lagged. He took aa short nap for some minutes before he heard the door open.
"Kai. They're back. Come down." his dad ordered.
Kai hummed an okay in reply before getting off the bed, stretching.
"Where's he?!" he could hear his stepmother coo happily at the bottom of the stairs. They were all still happy to see him even though they had just met him last summer.
"Mom." Kai smiled, climbing down the stairs.
"Kai yah! Congratulations!" she jumped onto Kai, hugging him.
"Thanks. Thanks. Mom, can't breathe." Kai gave a genuine grin pulling away. It was just him who didn't feel connected to her. But she never had treated him less than her own son.
"We're really sorry we couldn't be for your graduation." she gave a sad look.
"Nah. No worries." Kai waved it off.
"He's upset, I can tell." his dad put in, smirking.
"Oh hold on. Sehunna. Come here, darling." his mom turned around. Kai hadn't noticed the boy standing at the doorstep, hesitating to come in. "It's okay, Sehunna. It's just Kai. We told you he's coming home today, right."
Kai stepped closer to get a clearer view of his stepbrother. Kai's mouth fell open. Sehun looked nothing like when he last saw him. Kai had seen the family pictures that his parents sent occasionally, but Sehun always hung his head so low in the photos that Kai could not even bother to look closer.
But watching Sehun's face flustered, tensed and ridiculously perfect face, Kai could have choked. "Sehun?" his voice was only a whisper when he called out his name. Sehun still had his head hung low. He always had, even since they were kids. Part of the disability.
Sehun's mom slowly pulled him into the house, stroking his arm. "Don't worry. It's just your brother." she assured. Finally, she managed to stand Sehun slightly distant from Kai. Kai snapped his mouth close, but still staring at Sehun. Kai had to duck a little to get a better view of Sehun's face. For a moment, Kai was jealous. Jealous of Sehun's beautiful features.
"Hey, Sehun." Kai acted cool though he was having butterflies in his stomach.
Sehun just wouldn't look up at Kai. Instead of welcoming his stepbrother home, Sehun abruptly turned away and ran upstairs.
"That went better than I thought." Kai's dad patted on his shoulder, smiling. "Come on. Honey, what's for lunch?" he turned to his wife while Kai slapped himself back to reality after being totally smitten by his stepbrother.
