Reference [2] showed a similar relationship for some
wetland soils in Trinidad. Reference [22] indicated that
organic matter imparted better structural arrangement to soils which
lowered bulk density. Excluding the organic soil, clay content was
the dominant factor influencing bulk density. A similar trend was
observed for particle density, values decreasing with increasing clay
and organic matter contents, however, the relationships were not
significant. The low particle density for Chagaramus is associated
with the high organic matter. The specific gravity of organic matter is much
lower than for crystalline minerals [21].
