in status. Through focus groups and in-depth interviews
with physicians, nurses, community health
workers, and pharmacists, our certificate students
identified a serious breakdown in communication
leading to mistrust between these professional
groups in the initial stage of task shifting. Based on
these findings, a more inclusive team-oriented training
was introduced which specifically addressed this
breakdown in communication. The findings of the
second year’s implementation evaluation by the next
cohort of certificate students indicated considerable
improvement — particularly in the emergence of
strong team identities and the greater respect exhibited
between all professional groups.37
