The annual costs of the interventions were
driven by both the cost per person and the population
reach and varied greatly (Exhibit 1).
Differences across interventions in cost per
BMI unit reduction varied more than 2,000-fold.
Eliminating the tax deduction for advertising
nutritionally poor food to children would reduce
aBMIunit for $0.66 per person, while increasing
access to bariatric surgery would reduce a BMI
unit for $1,611.
