Therefore, this study is the first
report on nutrient removal from pre-treated landfill leachate
in an SBR. In the first phase of the study three, four and fivestep
SBR operations were compared in terms of their
nutrient removal efficiencies from the pre-treated leachate.
In the second phase, the pre-treated leachate was mixed with
domestic wastewater in equal volumes (1/1, v/v) to improve
the treatability of the leachate and was treated in a five-step
SBR in the presence and absence of PAC (1 g l21). PAC
was used in order to remove non-biodegradable organic
compounds present in the leachate by adsorption because of
its high adsorption capacity.
