No difference was found in the total polyunsaturated fatty acid
(PUFA) between groups. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, C22:6 n3)
was the predominant PUFA, and no difference in relative content
was found between EC and IC groups. The greatest differences in
the content of individual PUFAs between groups were observed
for linoleic (LA, 18:2 n6) (65%), alpha-linoleic acid (aLA, 18:3
n3) (65%) and arachidonic acid (20:4 n6) (83%). EC showed
20% more n3 FA. On the other hand, the IC group showed 39%
more n6 FA. There was also a significant difference between
groups (p > 0.001) in Pn3:Pn6 ratio in contrast to the EPA:DHA
ratio, which was not influenced by the culture method.
