Teerasil preparing for farewell match
Thailand striker Teerasil Dangda will play his last match for SCG Muang Thong United against their bitter rivals Buriram United in the League Cup next week before joining Spanish La Liga side Almeria.
After the League Cup quarter-final second leg at SCG Stadium next Wednesday, Teerasil will join Almeria on a season-long loan deal, Muang Thong director Ronnarit Suewaja announced yesterday. Muang Thong held Buriram to a scoreless draw in the first leg at I-Mobile Stadium last week.
"We are pleased to announce that Teerasil will be the first Thai player to play for a La Liga team,'' Ronnarit said.
Muang Thong have produced a limited collection of Teersail souvenir for fans to buy, he said.
Teerasil was on Manchester City books a few years ago when former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra owned the club but did not get a chance to play.
He also trained with Spanish champions Atletico Madrid last year.
