Previous studies have confirmed that the presence of moulds
and mycotoxins in poultry feeds results due to the use of contaminated
raw ingredients (Lozada, 1995). In India, poultry feed samples
have been reported to be contaminated with A. flavus
(Somashekar, Rati, Anand, & Chandrashekar, 2004). Moreno and
Suarez (1986) from Spain have reported the contamination of
poultry feeds with A. flavus and A. parasiticus that are capable to
produce AFB1 and total AFs. The poultry feed samples have shown a
high total mould count with the most frequent and abundant fungi
were A. flavus and Penicillium spp. (Bauduret, 1990).
