The significant others were telephoned at the
end of treatment and asked, "Have you seen
any differences in the subject's coffee drinking?"
This end of treatment check was conducted to
ensure that the subjects had noticeably reduced
their coffee drinking during treatment. Because
it was impossible to determine exactly whether
the subjects met criteria every day, the significant
others' reports were used to provide a gross
reliability measure of the subjects' records. All
significant others stated that they had observed
either a dramatic reduction in the number of
cups of regular coffee consumed across treatment
phases and/or a noticeable increase in
the number of cups of decaffeinated coffee
consumed
