The Transtheoretical Model (TTM) provides an
excellent framework within which to assess the
child's and the parent's awareness and acceptance
of the problem of obesity and their level of desire
to change their behavior to address the problem.
The TTM describes four stages of change through
which people progress in making health-related
changes. Based upon the parent's and the child's
stage of change, this model can be employed by
the practitioner to direct appropriate interventions.
The case management approach may be an
effective mechanism for introducing TTM-based
interventions designed to reduce childhood obesity.
