To move to Level 2a Two years of occupational health nursing experience Satisfactory performance appraisal Bachelor of science in nursing degree or enrollment in bachelor of science in nursing program is not necessary but is encouraged • Pursues educational/research opportunities for professional growth Demonstrate technical and clinical proficiency in conducting comprehensive health or injury assessments • Completes schedule appropriately • Reviews charts for completeness Interprets results of clinical tests and initiates appropriate interventions • Documents correctly Fosters compliance with current laws and regulations governing the work force and worksite safety, health, and environmental issues Participates in the formulation of goals, plans, and decisions related to services Contributes to the development of clinic budget Identifies and uses community services Participates in strategic and long-range planning • Suggests and supports change in the department
Level 2 At least 2 years of recent occupational health nursing clinical (as opposed to management) experience Belongs to professional organization Completes either 6 continuing nursing education credits or one college course, with a 3.0 GPA or higher, each year Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated Bachelor of science in nursing degree is preferred but is not required May serve as a preceptor for new occupational health nurses Serves as a resource for staff and other disciplines • Participates in staff meetings Begins to assess personal leadership style Suggests and supports changes within the department • Generates suggestions • Is supportive of innovative change • Executes problem solving using problem analysis, judgment, decisions, and risk taking in the proper sequence and correct combination Assists in the development and revision of unit goals Identifies existing problems and plans to address them in the immediate future Assumes responsibility for complex worker situations and views problems as a challenge • Completes documentation in a concise, accurate, consistent manner Adheres to all policies and procedures relative to client care Establishes appropriate professional communication • Strengthens interdisciplinary relationships with members of the health care team Participates in quality improvement activities Initiates participation in project and committee work Participates in self-review Nurses may elect to stay at Level 2 throughout their careers
