The proportion of time spent lying
on the slatted floor increased markedly with ambient
temperature during the observation period. This
increased use of the colder slatted floor for lying did not,
however, induce more piglets being born on the slatted
floor with increasing temperatures; the majority of the
piglets (82% at 15°C, 93% to 95% at 20°C to 25°C) were
born on the heated solid floor.
