Colony colors on solid media are shades of pink, red and orange due to the presence of carotenoids pigments. Vegetative reproduction is by budding, by the formation of pseudomycelium and true mycelium, and by the development of ballistospores. The ballistospores are bilaterally symmetrical, usually obovoid, pyriform and reniform; they develop obliquely at the tips of simple and branched sterigmata on yeast and mycelial cells.
fermentation does not occur; urease is positive.
