Characteristics of the study population
The study population consisted of 910 women, which
means that 471 women were excluded after matching for
confounders. The included women had a mean age of
50 years; most women were obese (mean BMI 27.5),
married, first school graduates, and had more than two
deliveries. Most of the diabetic women were normotensive
and were on oral anti-diabetic agents.
