Feminist Theory
Feminist theory views violence within the family as a gender and issue (Bogard. 1992: Dobash & power Dobash, 1992). It focuses primarily on an analysis of violence against women and identifies patriarchy, a male-dominated system in which males hold most of the power, as the root cause of this violence. Feminist theory rejects the notion that aspects of these roles are inherent instead considering them socially constructed to maintain male power not only in the family but in society at large. In this model, violence is seen as a social problem as well as a personal style of maintaining control over another person. The limitation of this model is its lack of application to other aspects of family violence such as elder abuse, sibling abuse, and child abuse
