Environmental issues of paper waste (biodegradability, disposable means, storage and fire hazards) have always been a problem that researchers have been trying to solve. The research aim is to enhance the utilization of paper waste and convert it into other great potential applications such as 100% biodegradable aerogel materials to clean the oil spill. New and advanced biodegradable cellulose aerogels (low cost, ultrastrong, flexible, high absorbent) are developed from recycled fibers of paper waste. Techniques used in this research is first to dissolve the recycled cellulose, followed by coagulating it and making it to a gel state and lastly by freeze drying to achieve the aerogel. Morphology of the recycled cellulose aerogels can be controlled by changing chemical compositions and fabrication conditions. The developed cellulose aerogels can also play variety of roles in materials science such as for greener buildings (effective insulation, light weight and fire retardation) and for microfluidic devices like fuel cells and small actuators. - See more at: http://dl4.globalstf.org/?wpsc-product=morphology-control-of-recycled-cellulose-aerogels-from-paper-waste-for-oil-spill-cleaning#sthash.aeRy0R3k.dpuf
