Moreover, it is common to observe a statistical significance with a
large sample size, even if there was little practical effect. Therefore, to protect against
statistical significant finding in terms of large sample size for the current study, effect
magnitudes were also reported along with statistical significance. Tests of the assumptions
for the correlation and multiple stepwise regression analyses were undertaken using SPSS
11.5 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 11.5). In addition, for data analysis, the
student reflections in the interviews were used to complement the interpretation of the
quantitative findings in this study. The audio-recorded student interviews were transcribed
and analyzed. Four categories including knowledge, thinking, attitude, and experience
emerged from the students’ interviews as the key components for the success in problem
solving activities.
