Burton et al. (2004) found that vehicles featuring ABS appear to be more likely to be involved in ROR collisions. Studies have demonstrated a significant increase in ROR collisions, particularly ROR crashes resulting in rollovers, with an increase of between 11% and 49%. Due to the significance of this increase, and the high severity of this crash type, this safety disbenefit virtually cancels out the benefits of reductions in other crash types. This appears to be an anomaly, considering the greater braking performance of ABS equipped vehicles.
