People were made to connect. For most of human history, we have been drawn together in connected communities where we can make friends, fall in love, raise families and do business. Our earliest societies started small, but were inhabited by people of varying ages, social classes and skill sets. They lived, worked and played together in a way that enabled society to function. Clusters of homes, shops, offices, parks and houses of worship provided room for personal interaction during the rhythm of every day life. These settlements and the cities they spawned were far from perfect, and relationships among different classes and races were often strained, but they were models of connected community nonetheless. People knew each other. Shared common interests. Faced common enemies.
