Beside DBPC-RCTs, there are also other clinical studies like open controlled trials and studies that compared two routes of administrations of allergens (most common SCIT and SLIT). Up to now, there is only one open controlled trial in pediatric population. In the mentioned study, Marcucci compared two different doses of SLIT. The results showed better efficacy in the terms of symptom and medication score in the group that received a higher dose. Larenas-Linnemann et al also reported positive effects of SLIT in children. Further studies described long-term effects of SCIT and only one study showed possible long-term effects of HDM SLIT. A study reported steroid sparing effects of HDM allergen specific immunotherapy (ASIT).
