As you have heard from Jim Murphy and other senior leaders, as we continue to adjust our product roadmaps and maneuver through tough markets, we’ve determined that our short-term focus will be on products that will grow revenue and sustain our position as a leader in our business. We need to remain committed to product leadership in the market segments we serve, including Quality, Time-to-Market, Time-to-Volume and Time-to-Cost
Products that we are focusing on for the short-term include Rainier, 4/5TB Spyglass, Trevino, T-Bird, and Monet.
WD is a leader in 1-and-2 disk Enterprise (RE), and it is imperative that we continue to have a firm grasp on that position. As such, we are dedicating considerable resources to finish Rainier qualifications and bring in the cost-reduced SOC, Hilo LT.
Looking at our mid-to long-term product roadmap, we also must continue to focus on staging technology:
• Large Sector Formatting (LSEC)
• Pattern Dependent Over-shoot Control (PDOC)
• Track ECC
• Two reader TDMR
• Large format media
• Sealed drive platform
As we realign our business to better position our company for the future, we will need to reposition some employees with specific skill sets to new areas. Unfortunately, in this realignment some positions will no longer be needed. As we solidify our plans in this area, additional messages and information will be made available to you.
I know that this is a difficult and stressful situation, and we all are affected by it in a variety of ways. These actions are required for WD to remain a healthy and profitable business in the long-term. Please understand that we are taking all possible measures to minimize disruption, anxiety, and stress.
We have a strong, resilient team. As you’ve heard me say before, when teams at WD are focused on those things we can influence to achieve an objective, we are absolutely unbeatable. I am convinced that together we will win the battle, and will remain a leader in the industry.
