The mass attenuation coefficients were evaluated from incident (I0) and transmitted (I) intensities at different gamma-ray energies. The data of mass attenuation coefficients were showed in Table 2. The theoretical value of mass attenuation coefficients were calculated using WinXCom program (Gerward et al., 2004) and results show good agreements between experimental (ex) and theoretical (th) values. The mass attenuation coefficients of the zircons were found to decrease with the increasing of the gamma-ray energy. Plotting results are also shown with good agreements on the experimental and the theoretical values of the mass attenuation coefficients as shown in Fig. 2. The statistical uncertainties in this experiment were found to be in the range of 3–4%
