Dear University of Tampa Search Committee Members :
I am writing to recommend Patricia Lois Nuss Bambace for a position as Professor of photography and visual arts.
Patricia joined our Photography Department in January of 2016 as a Guest Lecturer on the topic of Alternative Photographic Processes. After communicating with Patricia for three years and observing her work as an educator in the U.S. we invited her to join us at Chiang Mai University. Our students were thankful for her instruction and her direct supervisor, Professor Gun Ketwech, observed the course was the best we have offered on the topic of Alternative Processes. Her report with the students was impressive as were her skills in managing course expectations, student accountability, and overcoming language barriers when they existed.
Patricia made the effort to be involved in Thai culture and community. She regularly attended cultural events with us within Chiang Mai and also took initiative in working outside the city by establishing a photography workshop program for Karen women living in small villages. She did this successfully by sourcing camera donations, producing the lessons, arranging for translators, visiting their villages, and group critiques. She completed the lessons by organizing an exhibition of the women’s photographs in the city.
We have invited Patricia to return this January to contribute to the Chiang Mai Photography Festival as a Curator and we look forward to hosting her again.
Patricia is an asset to any photography department and she has my highest recommendation for this position.
Sincerely yours,
(Assistant Professor Assada Phorananond)
Acting Head of Media Arts and Design Department
