Course Plans and Process Designs
A device that is useful in helping an instructor to a good start is a written course plan outlining the units of content to be included in the course. Most people have had Some experience with content outlines of this sort, either as students or as teachers, or both, and so they usually don’t find them difficult to construct. But a content plan by itself is not enough in fact, it may lead instructors to feel that their job is to “transmit the content." Early in my experience as a program director I learned to insist that my instructors also construct a “process design,” in which they would describe the procedures they would use to create a climate that would be conducive to adult learning and to involve the learners actively in planning, learning, and evaluating. Exhibit I-3 is a reproduction of this “Teacher’s Process Plan."
