[ii] Internet Notice and Take down. As explained above, online-service providers may be exempt from certain remedies in specified cases if they satisfy complex conditions. One set of these conditions effectively grants copyright owners a self-help remedy which encourages them to follow certain ''notice'' procedures in order to have purportedly alleging materials ''taken down'' from the Internet, that is, to remove them or to stop access to them. A service provider is essentially exempt from most liability for taking down materials if certain guidelines are met.
