Mounting Bounce Light Fixtures
Fixtures that bounce light off the ceiling or other surfaces can be installed in many ways. The reflecting surface usually is diffuse, so the location of the fixture does not materially affect the direction that light is reflected. You can use many types of fixtures to create bounce lighting. Torchere lamps are handy, but they are limited to creating the lighted spot directly overhead. Pole lamps with one or more movable sockets overcome this problem. Table-mounted lamps may be suitable, but they take up space. Attractive reflector lamps can be installed on any surface or object, and they have great flexibility in aiming.
The main guideline is to install the fixtures so that the lamps and the bright surfaces of the fixtures are not visible from occupied portions of the space. One way to do this is to make the fixtures tall enough so that the bright portions of the fixtures are above eye level.
