Manager Contract
NLP is a unique learning opportunity – for you as well as for the rest of the CP Group. It requires on-going time commitments over the next several months; which can sometimes cause conflicts with your regular responsibilities. As you move higher in CP Group, you will need to learn to juggle competing priorities – NLP provides a developmental experience which will offer you the opportunity to work on this. To assure that NLP commitments do not conflict with delivery of your existing business goals before you even start, it is imperative that you meet and contract with your direct manager to determine how best to balance NLP with your “day job.” Ensure that you have a good understanding of the NLP process before your meeting.
Schedule a 60-minute meeting with your manager and use the pages below to structure your discussion. You should consider the questions below before the meeting and then use the time to dialogue and reach agreements for how you can best use the NLP experience. Each agenda item is explained in more detail on the following pages:
• Provide overview of NLP process and commitments. (5 minutes)
• Review key events/commitments for your usual work responsibilities and how these may be impacted by your participation in the NLP workshops. Discuss potential conflicts and your plan to resolve these. Receive manager’s input/coaching. (20 minutes)
• Review your personal development goals. Ask for manager’s input/coaching. (10 minutes)
• Ask for your manager’s input/coaching on what your business team can improve to deliver better performance. Explain that you will be selecting an area to focus on improving with your direct reports as part of NLP. (10 minutes)
• Interview your manager to better understand the CP Group values and how they apply to your business area. (15 minutes)
