A possible mechanism
for the protective effect of wine is provided by the antioxidant
and anti-inflammatory properties of resveratrol and melatonin,
which are most prominent in red wine (52-54). Studies
suggest that dietary polyphenolics may benefit AD by modulating
multiple disease-modifying modalities, both β-amyloiddependent
and independent mechanisms, and provide impetus
for the development of polyphenolic compounds for AD
prevention (55).
