GMO’s are microorganisms, plants, and animals that have their genes altered. Usually they are modified either to further scientific research or to alter the food supply. Common genetic modifications include: adding antibacterial genes to plants, introducing genes that make the organism bigger or hardier, making new foods by adding genes from existing foods, and adding animals genes to plants and vice versa.
Advantages
1. Crops have better quality and taste.
2. GMO’s allows farmer to skip steps in the production process and giving yields up of production.
3. Creating plants are better resistant to weeds, pest and other diseases.
4. GMO’s allows farmer reduce using pesticide which is good for the environment.
5. GMO’s food has nutritional value more than natural food.
Disadvantages
1. Do not give real taste of food.
2. It may be cause of produce super weeds that can resistance herbicides.
3. GMO’s may lead to unexpected and harmful things to an organism.
4. Bacteria develop resistance to antibiotics which makes bacteria stronger and harder to kill.
5. There is risk of allergic reaction increase in susceptible individuals.
6. There has not been enough testing of GMO’s and no real long term testing to detect possible problems.
7. GMO food can cause cancer.
Opinion paragraph
We agree with disadvantages of GMO’s that can harm the organism and environment. We have two reasons that we use to support our opinion. The first reason is possibility of allergic reactions; genetic modification often mixes or adds proteins that weren’t indigenous to the original plant, causing new allergic reactions to the human body, according to Brown University. The second reason is gene transfer for example, the cross pollination of plants and weeds can produce a super weed hardy to herbicides. Therefore, agriculturist has to use violent herbicides to kill a super weed which is destruction of the environment. In conclusion, there are many advantages of GMO's that can harm organism and the environment.
