Paprika Red pigments (known as pepper oleoresin in the
world, an extracts of DRPs, containing mainly capsaicinoids and
red colorants) is usually extracted from dried red pepper (DRPs)
by heat refluxing extraction with petroleum ether as solvent in
the industrial production (Lu, Li, Lian, & Yao, 2004; Wang &
Zhang, 2010), meanwhile capsaicinoids are obtained as a
byproduct by removing them from the oleoresin. For comparison
of extraction yield of capsaicinoids and red pigments from FRPs
(new methods) with that from DRPs (conventional methods), a
simulative industrial extraction process of red pigments was
carried out with a Soxhlet extractor using hexane as solvent according
to the previous literatures (Bae et al., 2012; Sang et al.,
2008). The extraction had been gone along until the red colorants
are exhausted for about 6 h. After removal of solvent, the
oleoresin were obtained. Then the contents of capsaicinoids and
red pigments were assayed, respectively. And the results were
shown in Table 4.
