Direct Instruction should be used when the curriculum presents skills that students
will need help developing. It is especially useful for complex skills
that contain involved procedures. Skills such as constructing mathematical
proofs, building literary themes, learning dance or cheerleading routines,
applying the steps in an experiment, and solving analogies or word
problems are all ideally suited for Direct Instruction.
