The KSPC follows up suicide-attempt cases via telephone and home visits. Referred cases include hospitalized patients, patients identified by the Bureau of Police and the Bureau of Fire, patients identified as high-risk by hospital screening, and patients referred from gatekeepers. To prevent the exacerbation of the risk of suicide, timely and effective medical treatment and social welfare are provided. Home visits are limited due to their time-consuming nature and the lack of manpower. Even so, the number of persons contacted via telephone has increased between 2005 and 2008. The data from 2005 was collected from the Kaohsiung Armed Forces General Hospital, which undertook the work of telephone visit in 2005. The KSPC took
over the work after 2006, and a growing trend was also noted between 2005 and 2008.
