Subaerial landslide generated impulse waves involve generally nonlinear and intermediate- to shallow-water waves of small to considerable fluid mass transport (Heller, 2007). They are dispersive (Kamphuis and Bowering, 1972) and cover a wide wave type spectrum. Depending on the wave type the wave profile, amount of fluid mass transport, run-up height, or wave force on a structure differ. The knowledge of the wave type is therefore a prerequisite to reliably predict the effects of impulse waves on the shore line or a dam.
