Community Issues
Goldcorp acknowledges the potential for adverse impacts on communities as a result of mining activities. Examples of such impacts include heightened environmental risks, as well as competition for employment opportunities and local infrastructure services. All of Goldcorp’s operations have procedures for handling community issues, which they endeavour to resolve with a mutually acceptable solution. In 2012, the issues mainly related to noise, dust, traffic, vibrations from blasting, and water usage. In all cases, we sought to establish meaningful and transparent dialogue with the community member(s) and to take appropriate remedial action. We utilize the same channels for community concerns raised by stakeholders as those used for human rights grievances.
