The prognostic value of the traditional TNM system is widely
regarded as inadequate in patients with OSCC [5]. Advances in
understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying OSCC
have led to an ever-increasing number of molecular markers
shown to be related to the behavior of this disease. However,
little clear evidence has been provided on the prognostic relevance
of these markers. In addition, there is an increased necessity
for identification and standardization of sensitive and
accurate biomarkers that can identify OSCC patients with a
poor prognosis [6].
