Variable results were also seen for CO knowledge with a majority correctly knowing that CO was a gas that could not be seen (79%), that using a gas oven to heat the house could cause CO poisoning (74%), and that one should call 911 and evacuate the house if a CO alarm sounds (77%). Only a minority knew the symptoms of CO poisoning (23%) or the proper place to install a CO alarm (14%; Table 4).
The majority of respondents did not know either the recom- mended temperature of the hot water heater setting (69%) or the recommended temperature of water for bathing (77%). The majority of participants correctly reported that babies’ skin burns faster than adults’ (85%; Table 4).
In a chi-squared analysis, no difference on knowledge items was found between seniors of different age groups (not shown).
