Implications for Nursing Management
When implementing a telestroke program, nurse leaders
need to create a structure for the facilitys stroke care
delivery model, plan for allocation of resources, and
consider the operational impact of the telestroke program.
Significant time and planning is needed to develop
the operational component of care delivery.
Nurse leaders need to allocate staff, assess the available
resources of other departments, such as radiology and
laboratory, and project the impact of the program on
the current ED function and flow. The operational
component continues to evolve during planning as the
team moves into real-time testing of the proposed care
delivery model. It is only when you begin to test the
plan during Mock Stroke Alerts, that Nurse Leaders can
evaluate what works and what needs to be improved.
Through continual refining and retuning, a realistic
stroke care delivery model emerges that provides quality
care for the stroke patient with positive clinical outcomes
