Higher values of density and viscosity will lead to poor atomization and air fuel
mixing which ultimately result in poor combustion and reduced
engine efficiency. In this study the density of the biodiesel derived
from the alga S. bijugatus was 812 kg/m3. The stability of biodiesel
depends on the acid value which determines the fuel quality. The
acid value for the algal biodiesel was determined as 0.52 mg
KOH/g, whereas, the acid values of biodiesel obtained from
Scenedesmus sp. in previous studies was found to be 0.52 mg
KOH/g [58,59].
