Thaksin Shinawatra visited Myanmar early this month, claims Surachet Chaikosol, former MP for Ayutthaya, who on Sunday posted pictures in the social media of the fugitive former prime minister in Yangon.
Mr Surachet, a former MP of the dissolved People's Power Party, said he got the pictures from a friend who is a businessman who went to Myanmar to explore investment opportunities.
His friend, whom he did not identify, happened to see Thaksin at the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon on February 5. Mr Surachet said the friend introduced himself to Thaksin as his compatriot and Thaksin talked to him in a friendly manner. Thaksin said he was on a trip to make merit.
After getting the pictures from his friend, he held on to them for several days before deciding to post them in the social media, believing they would not offend the government.
Mr Surachet said Thaksin told his friend he could talk about anything but politics, including about the government and his younger sister and former prime minister Yingluck.
Thaksin told his friend he could invest in Myanmar, saying that the country is now wide open to investors, Mr Surachet said.
