A study conducted by investigators at the Centers for
Disease Control evaluated risk factors for acute upper
respiratory tract infection in childhood. H Day care attendance
was shown to be associated with a significantly
increased risk of upper respiratory tract infection. However,
the study provided a cross-sectional analysis for only a
2-week interval. Furthermore, day care was defined quite
liberally as more than 4 hours per week of supervised care,
infections are not clearly defined, and results were not
analyzed separately for family and large day care center
